Please note, that we are not in any way reimbursed by any of the mentioned places and we just liked the food/price/service ratio.

Also realize, that you are in our taste zone, if your taste buds are not close to ours try one of our recommendations and if you don’t concur, you are on your own.

By the way, there is quite often a McDonalds around somewhere to serve more familiar meals.

Another day in Lutherland

On a weekday get up and have your breakfast early, as you want to be on the road by 7 a.m..

Program Naumburg into your GPS and hit the Autobahn for your first 100 km.

You should be able to reach the cathedral there right when they open. This church is an example of a massive old Catholic church that changed to Lutheran during the Reformation (On Sunday and religious Holidays the church does not open until noon).

Next stop Wittenberg just in time for lunch.

On the square across the Castle Church is the visitor’s center, which should be your first stop.

Join a guided tour or buy a guide book and explore the town that was so instrumental in the Reformation.

Please note, there is an English service scheduled at either the Castle or the Town Church on Saturday evening or a devotional service at the chapel of Corpus Christy at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

While there we enjoyed a nice dinner before the service at the Kartoffelhaus “Schwarzer Baer”.

The drive back takes about 2½ hours with the last 200 km on the Autobahn.

If you are really ambitious you could add a stop between Naumburg and Wittenberg in Torgau, adding about 40 km and 50 minutes driving time. In the castle there is the first church, which was built as a Lutheran church. Worth mentioning is that Luther’s wife died and is buried there. This is also the town where the American Soldiers met the Russians at the end of World War II.
